Lesson Descriptions
Private Lessons (2 yrs - Adult) (30-minutes)
Private lessons are available at the availability of the facility and swim instructors. One additional family member may join the Private lesson for an additional $10 per lesson. Once you have registered for a private lesson a swim instructor will contact you to arrange your lesson time.
Minnow: Infant and Preschool Aquatic program (18 months - 3 yrs w/parent) (30-minutes)
This class is for the child that loves water but is not ready to go alone. This parent/child program will promote aquatic adjustments, swimming readiness skills, while having fun with mom, dad, or grandparents. The emphasis is on becoming more familiar in the water while building a trusting relationship with the parent. We will use songs, games, and activities that will promote the swimmers to work on retrieving objects below the surface, front/back floats, and glides with assistance from the parent, as well as leg and arm action on front and back. Parent/guardian must get into the water with the child.
Waterbugs (3+ yrs) (30-minutes)
For your child to participate at this level, they must be ready to swim without a parent. This class will help young children adjust to the water and build confidence through games, songs, and fun. This class is designed to continue with swim lessons without the assistance of a parent. This is a drop-off program so your child must be ready to try swimming with our instructors. Skills that we will work on include listening, following directions and staying with the group while learning how to safely enter the water, bob, retrieve objects from below the surface, and float on their front and back with assistance.
Seals - Level 1: Introduction to Water Skills (5+ yrs) (45-minutes)
For your child to participate in this level, they must have successfully surpassed all requirements for the Waterbug program. We will work on making students feel comfortable in the water. Goggles are recommended, as we will work on submerging while picking up objects. They will work on front and back glides, as well as swimming on front/back. Safety topics include recognizing the lifeguards, how to call for help, look before you leap, and think so you don’t sink.
Goldfish-Level 2: Fundamental Aquatic Skills (6+ yrs) (45-minutes)
For your child to participate in this level, they must have surpassed all requirements of the seal level. We will give students success with fundamental skills. Participants will fully submerge and hold breath, while working on rolling from their front and back. Floats are mastered at this level. Floating with kicks and proper breathing are introduced. Swimmers will work on performing front and back glides for 5 body lengths. Safety topics include staying safe around water, life jacket use, and recognizing an emergency.
Sharks - Level 3: Stroke Development (6+ yrs) (45-minutes)
To participate in this level, you must have accomplished all skills learned in the Goldfish program. Participants will learn to bob while moving to safety in chest deep water, work on rotary breathing, as well as floating and treading in deep water. They will work on elementary backstroke, dolphin kicking, front crawl, sidestroke, and breaststroke kicks. Instructors will review safety codes to keep your child safe around water.
Whales - Level 4: Stroke Improvement (7+ yrs) (45-minutes)
To participate in this level, your swimmer must have completed all requirements of the Shark program. Participants will develop confidence in the skills previously learned. Swimmers will be required to complete front crawl and backstroke as well as sidestroke with scissor kicks. Breaststroke and Butterfly arms will be introduced, and Backstroke skills will be refined. Safety topics will continue to improve water safety skills.
Dolphins - Level 5: Stroke Refinement (8+ yrs) (45-minutes)
The level 5 swimmer will work on further coordination and refinement of previously taught strokes. Participants will become proficient with treading water. Butterfly stroke is refined along with further practice of front crawl and backstroke. Each stroke must be mastered for a minimum of 25 yards. Safety topics taught include the importance of CPR and First Aid skills, as well as wave and tide preparedness.
