Dear Residents,
At the time that I am writing this letter we have had a pretty mild winter to say the least. This past week we had our first significant snowfall, which I know many of you were happy about so that you could finally get outside and enjoy your favorite winter activities. While there hasn’t been a lot of snow, we have experienced some cold temperatures making the ice fishermen happy.
Our recreation staff has been busy planning activities for this coming spring/summer that I am sure you and your family
will love. Take a few minutes to thumb through this guide to see what all the excitement is about.
Help Wanted – It’s never to early to start looking for a summer job. The Park District hires thirty to forty employees aged 15 and above for a variety of seasonal positions throughout the summer. Positions include lifeguards, camp counselors, parks maintenance, concession workers, beach managers, class instructors, and league attendants. Applications can be found on our website under the employment tab located at the top of the home page, or by stopping by the Community Center.
Unplug Illinois – The District will be participating in the 7th annual Unplug Illinois Day on Saturday, July 12. This event is sponsored by the Illinois Park and Recreation Association. The event’s mission is to have people throughout Illinois ditch their electronic devices and “unplug” to enjoy activities at their local park, recreation, and conservation agencies. As part of this effort, we will be holding a Chalk the Walk and Flying 4 Kids event at Cook Park. For more details, see our ad on page 10.
NISRA (Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association) – The Wauconda Park District is one of thirteen members of the Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association. NISRA helps to enrich the lives of people with disabilities through meaningful recreation experiences. More information about NISRA can be found on page 58, or by stopping by the Community Center to grab one of their seasonal program guides.
Chamber Cares – The Wauconda Park District staff received the Chamber Cares award at the Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards and Recognition night held on January 17 at Concord Banquets in Killdeer. The Chamber Cares Award nominees are any not-for-profit entity who provides exceptional support and leadership for citizens in the Wauconda Area concerning health, financial and/or emotional well-being and enhancing the general quality of lives. This not-for- profit entity gives continuously to the betterment of our communities. The nominee must be a Chamber member in good standing.
As always, I hope that you have an opportunity to visit one of our parks or participate in one of the many activities the District offers seasonally. If you have questions or concerns regarding the services that we provide, I would be happy to speak with you personally.
Sincerely,
Tim Staton, CPRP
Executive Director
