November 20, 2020
I hope you and your family are doing well. In an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19, Governor Pritzker has announced that on Friday, November 20, 2020 at 12:01 am, the State would be moved into Tier 3 Mitigation. These changes will significantly impact the way we offer recreational programs and services. The current Mitigation has been put in place for a two-week period. Our staff will continue to monitor the guidelines and inform you of any changes to our current program offerings. As we continue to navigate the challenges of COVID- 19, please know that our main priority has, and will continue to be, the health and well-being of our community. Our staff will continue to adapt our recreational programs and operations to the necessary guidelines in order to provide the safest and best services we can to our residents.
For the time being we have had to put a pause on many of our recreational opportunities. Following are the current guidelines for each program area.
Menagerie Dance – All Menagerie Dance classes scheduled for this fall will transition to a virtual format. Dance staff is working hard to produce a variation of the Winter Show that will allow all the dancers to showcase what they have learned over the past several weeks. If restrictions move back down, these classes could resume in-person. All participants should receive class updates via email from their teachers. You can also find additional information on the Menagerie Dance Facebook Page.
Club and E-Learning – The Club/E-learning program will continue to take place as scheduled. All staff and participants must wear masks during this program, except when eating or drinking.
Early Childhood – The following Early Childhood classes have been cancelled for the remainder of this session. Prepping for Preschool, Music and Movement, and Kids Kraft Club. Refunds have been processed for these classes. Holiday Gifts to Give, A Grinchmas Celebration, and Holiday Cookies and Crafts are currently scheduled to meet in December. Staff will continue to monitor updates to the current mitigation and provide program updates when they are available.
Preschool – All As We Grow Preschool classes will meet as scheduled. This includes the second session of Virtual Preschool scheduled to begin on Monday, November 30. Masks will be required at all times.
Group Fitness – In-person group fitness classes have been cancelled. Jazzercise will continue to hold outside classes. Participants will be required to wear masks even when exercising outside. Please visit the Jazzercise website at jazzercise.com and search Wauconda to view the current class schedule.
Fitness First – Fitness First will remain open to members only. Reservations are required for a
one-hour time slot. Masks must be worn at all times in the Community Center including while exercising in the Fitness First Facility. No Exceptions. Locker room facilities are closed except for restroom areas. To make a reservation please contact Fitness First at (847) 526-4604.
Youth Sports – Five Star Basketball and Preseason Basketball Clinics have been put on pause. Staff will reevaluate the guidelines on Friday, December 4 to decide on whether we can continue with these classes. We will also continue to take registration in hopes that we will be able to offer the youth basketball leagues beginning in January.
Administrative Office – Our Administrative Office will remain open Monday-Friday from 8:30 am – 5:00 pm. Masks are required at all times while in the Community Center.
Parks and Playgrounds – At this time, our parks and playgrounds remain open. We recommend that everyone wear a mask while engaged in all outdoor activities during Tier 3 Mitigation.
Rentals – We currently are not able to accommodate facility rental requests.
Program Guide – Our Winter/Spring Program Guide will be published on our website the week of Monday, November 23. Registration for residents will begin on Monday, November 30 and Nonresidents on Monday, December 7. Please keep in mind that all programs listed in the guide are tentative as we continually monitor the recommendations of the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), Lake County Health Department (LCHD), and Park District Risk Management Agency (PDRMA).
Thank you for your cooperation during these difficult times. Our staff continues to explore new ideas and opportunities, so that we can continue to offer you and your family the recreational activities they need during this time.
When you must go out, please remember the 3 W’s. WEAR a Cloth Mask over your nose and mouth, WATCH your distance and remain 6-Feet apart to avoid close contact, WASH your hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer.
We hope you can enjoy the Thanksgiving Holiday. We hope to see you all in-person soon! Program updates can be found at waucondaparks.com, or by following Wauconda Park District on Facebook. To talk with one of our staff members, please call (847) 526-3610.
